It is not a government authority, regulator, licensing authority, certification body or accreditation body, and is not their agent or representative. Licences and registrations are granted by the relevant authorities, and certificates are issued by independent certification bodies.

Most food businesses in India need either an FSSAI registration or an FSSAI licence. Which one applies depends on factors such as the type of activity, scale of operation and location, as set out in the FSSAI regulations. We help you work out what applies to your business; the final decision rests with FSSAI.

HACCP is a method for identifying and controlling food safety hazards at critical points in your process. ISO 22000 is an international standard for a complete food safety management system that includes HACCP principles and management-system requirements. FSSC 22000 is a certification scheme built on ISO 22000 with additional prerequisite-programme and scheme requirements, often requested by large buyers and exporters.
